The Future of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific:
How Japan and its allies are working together in the face of new challenges
This video covers discussions on the progress and future of the "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" (FOIP) framework, its role in the Indo-Pacific, and its relationship with other frameworks like QUAD and AUKUS. Launched in 2016 to promote respect for international law, regional stability, and shared prosperity, FOIP has expanded under Prime Minister Kishida’s leadership. It now addresses a broad range of issues, including climate change, energy, human security, economic cooperation, and maritime and air security.

Asian Prosperity Fostered by Human Exchange:
The Next 50 Years of ASEAN-Japan Relations
At the ASEAN-Japan Summit in December 2023, ASEAN and Japan emphasized a "heart-to-heart partnership across generations." This vision stresses such exchanges are seen as crucial for contributing to peace and prosperity in the increasingly complex Asia-Pacific region. Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced the "WA Project 2.0," an intensive 10-year exchange initiative to support this vision. This 60-minute webinar was conducted featuring expert discussions on the significance and impact of ASEAN-Japan exchanges, addressing both their successes and challenges in building these human networks.

What began as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), an agreement that was designed to connect countries across the Pacific Ocean, now has taken on a new and different form known as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, or CPTPP. In order to better understand the past, present and potential future of the CPTPP, we brought together a panel of experts to explore the intricacies of international trade converging with geopolitical realities. And, we had a lively and insightful discussion about Japan's role in promoting active global free trade as well as the CPTPP as a whole.

Olympics, Omicron and Civil Obedience?
Lessons from Japan's COVID countermeasures
Japan has avoided severe lockdowns in favor of voluntary self-restraint measures. The result has been the lowest level of COVID-related deaths (230 per million) among all the nations in the OECD. Even large-scale events such as the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics took place with no upsurge in cases. There have been some downsides, however. With a near total ban on immigration and tourism, foreign companies in Japan have seen their plans disrupted and the previously fast-growing tourism sector has suffered from a severe downturn. To explore the story behind Japan’s COVID countermeasures, we brought together a panel of experts to better understand what the world could learn from Japan’s experience.
