Shigeki Komatsubara

Mr. Shigeki Komatsubara is the Resident Representative of UNDP in the United Republic of Tanzania. Before assuming the office in October 2023, he served as Director of AI, Country Oversight and Support Team (COST) at Regional Bureau for Africa, UNDP HQ (New York, USA) from August 2023 to September 2023, UNDP Resident Representative in Malawi from June 2019 to August 2023, TICAD (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) Programme Adviser at the Regional Bureau of Africa HQ, UNDP (New York, USA) from March 2011 to May 2019.

Prior to this, Mr. Komatsubara was the Deputy Resident Representative (Programme) at UNDP Ghana (2007-2011), and the Country Programme Adviser at Regional Bureau for Africa (2002-2007) at UNDP HQ (New York, USA) in charge of West Africa and Southern African countries. He also served as the bureau focal point for human security programmes, GEF resources management, and operational/residential security for UNDP in Africa, among others.

Mr. Komatsubara joined UNDP from Keidanren (Japan Federation of Economic Organizations) Secretariat (1992-2002) where he worked on international trade, foreign direct investment, Eu ropean economic affairs, regulatory and administrative reform, among others. During his tenure, he was also seconded to OECD (BIAC: Business and Industry Advisory Committee to OECD) secretariat (Paris, France) from 1995 to 1998 as policy manager.

Mr. Komatsubara has a Master of Science (Econ) in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and BA (Anglo-American Studies, International Relations) from the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
