Amit Jain

Director of the NTU-SBF Centre for African Studies at the Nanyang Business School, Singapore

Amit Jain is a frontier markets specialist.

During his 25+ years career Amit has produced advisories, published articles, run leadership programs and managed difficult partnerships. He has mobilised private sector investments in value chain projects in Africa and served as an advisor to private and public sector clients.

He is the author of Back to Growth: Priority Agenda for the Economic Revival of Nigeria, a much-publicised policy advisory report that lays out a three-phased sequential roadmap of reforms for Nigeria to sustain a 7%+ rate of GDP growth. In 2005, Amit was awarded the UK Panos-GKP Award for his work on technology and democracy.

Amit holds a degree in International Relations and Economics as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism. His expertise is in economic development, global value chains and the use of natural resources for sustainable development. He has worked on field assignments in difficult and sometimes unstable frontier markets such as Somaliland, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Myanmar, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Tunisia, Iran and North Korea.

He currently serves as the Director of NTU-SBF Centre for African Studies in Singapore and sits on the continental supervisory board of Solidaridad Asia. He is considered a thought leader on the contemporary economic transformation of Africa and its growing multi-sector partnership with Asia. Before his appointment as the Director of the NTU-SBF Centre for African Studies Amit ran a private sector practice advising clients and investors on how to navigate frontier markets across Asia Pacific and Africa. His work has been published widely and has been featured in the international press.
