Tan Sri Dr. Lim Wee Chai, aged 60 and a Malaysian citizen, is the Executive Chairman and Founder of Top Glove. Under his visionary stewardship, the company which was established in 1991, was listed on Bursa Malaysia (the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange) in 2001 and the Singapore Exchange (SGX) in 2016. The company also has a market capitalization of RM 10.1 billion or US$ 2.5 billion as at 29 December 2017.

Mainly engaged in the manufacturing of disposable rubber gloves, the company currently operates 33 factories across Malaysia, Thailand and China with a total of 550 production lines and a production capacity of 51.9 million pieces of gloves per annum. It serves a growing network of over 2,000 customers in 195 countries, and is the world’s largest manufacturer of gloves, capturing 25% of the global market share.

Tan Sri Dr. Lim graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree with Honours in Physics in 1982 from University Malaya, Malaysia, and received his Master of Business Administration in 1985 from Sul Ross State University, Texas, United States of America. In 2015, he obtained his PhD in Management from University of Selangor, Malaysia and in 2016, was conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration by Oklahoma City University, United States of America.

Tan Sri Dr. Lim Wee Chai has been actively involved in glove industry related associations and organisations in Malaysia. He served as the President of the Malaysia Rubber Glove Manufacturers’ Association (MARGMA) from 1997 to 1999. In addition, he was also the Director of the Association of Malaysia Medical Industries (AMMI), Board Member of the Malaysia Rubber Board in 1998 to 1999 and Council Member of the East Asia Business Council (EABC) from 2011 to 2015.

Tan Sri Dr. Lim Wee Chai has also been involved in many associations and organizations in Malaysia. He is currently serving as the Honorary President of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM). He also holds the role of Life Honorary Adviser of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia. In addition to this, he was also appointed as Director and Board Member of University of Malaya (2015 to 2018) as well as the Employees Provident Fund (2015 to 2019). He is the Immediate Past President of the Federation of Malaysian manufacturers (FMM), having been in office from 2016 to 2017.

A testament to his entrepreneurial prowess, Tan Sri Dr. Lim Wee Chai has garnered several awards such as the prestigious accolade Master and Country Entrepreneur of Malaysia for the Year, by Ernst and Young in 2004; Entrepreneur of the Year at the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards 2008; The Brand Laureate Brand Icons Leadership Award in 2011; Manufacturer Man of the Year 2013 by the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation and the Asian Icon Award (World Class Entrepreneur) in 2014. In 2016, he was honoured with the 2016 Malaysian Leadership Excellence Award by the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM), Business Excellence Person of the Year at the Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards 2016, and the FMM Icon Award 2016 by the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers. Most recently in 2017, Tan Sri Dr. Lim Wee Chai was awarded with The Malaysian Fujian Exemplary Leader 2017 award by The Federation of Hokkien Associations of Malaysia (FHAM).

In recognition of his vast contributions to the nation’s economic development, in 2007 he was conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Setia Mahkota (P.S.M) which carries the title “Tan Sri” by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) of Malaysia.
