Former Minister of Health, Labor & Welfare

Yasuhisa Shiozaki is a member of the House of Representatives, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). A 1975 graduate of the University of Tokyo, he first joined The Bank of Japan and completed the MPA at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University (1982). First elected to the House of Representatives in 1993, he then ran for the House of Councilors in 1995, and re-elected to the House of Representatives in 2000, now in his seventh term. He served as Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, Chief Cabinet Secretary, Minister of State for the Abduction Issue, Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Finance. In the House, he served as Chairman of the Committee on Judicial Affairs and Senior Director of the Committee on Budget, and in the LDP, he was Acting Chairman of Policy Council, Chairman of Research Commission on the Finance and Banking Systems, Deputy Chairman of Research Commission on the Tax System, Director of the LDP Foreign Affairs/Treasury and Finance/Judicial Affairs divisions, and Acting Director of the Health, Labor and Welfare Division. He also serves as Japanese Co-Chairman of the UK-Japan 21st Century Group, Chairman of the Japan-Thailand Parliamentary Friendship Association, Chief-Secretary of the Japan-US Parliamentary Association and the Japan-Singapore Parliamentary Friendship Association, among others. Author to numerous articles and reports on policy affairs.
