Managing Executive Officer, Nikkei Inc.

Mr. Tsuyoshi Sunohara is a Managing Executive Officer for Global Business, Nikkei Inc., the publisher of Japans leading business daily, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun or Nikkei. Before assuming his current capacity, he has been covering U.S. foreign policy toward Asia, the U.S.-Japan relationship as well as Japan’s foreign & security policy as a senior staff writer of the paper. He is also Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the Mt. Fuji Dialogue, the unique bilateral intellectual platform between Japan and the U.S., jointly established by Japan Center for Economic Research (JCER) and the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA), in 2014. He is also a visiting professor at Center for Global Discovery, Sophia University. He was a political correspondent in Washington, D.C. in 1991–95 and chief correspondent in 1999–2003. He was also chief correspondent covering the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and Ministry of Defense (MOD) in 1996–98. Mr. Sunohara was a visiting fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in 2003 as well as the Henry L. Stimson Center in 2006. He was also a fellow at the Advanced International Reporting Program, Graduate School of Journalism of Columbia University in 1986–1987. Mr. Sunohara graduated from Sophia University in Tokyo with a degree in business administration.
