“Ultra-VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity)” is a term coined by experts to describe the present world that is beset by the Covid-19 pandemic, US-China tensions and instability in post-election US. What are the guideposts that will steer us through the storm? In a new series of “Nikkei Virtual Global Forum”, a selected panel of experts will share their views and global perspectives on state and corporate governance for an Ultra-VUCA era.

1975年一橋大学商学部卒業、1977年同大学院商学研究科修士課程、1980年博士後期課程単位修得。
1992年一橋大学教授。大学院商学研究科長・商学部長、副学長を歴任。2015年より特任教授。

経済産業省プロジェクト「持続的成長への競争力とインセンティブ～企業と投資家の望ましい関係構築～」で座長を務め、2014年に公表した報告書（「伊藤レポート」）は海外でも大きな反響を呼んだ。
内閣府「未来投資会議・構造改革徹底推進会合」委員等のほか、経済産業省「持続的成長に向けた長期投資（ESG・無形資産投資）研究会」でも座長として2017年に報告書（「伊藤レポート2.0」）を公表した。
ほかに東京証券取引所「企業価値向上表彰制度委員会」委員長、経済産業省「コーポレート・ガバナンス・システム研究会」委員、経済産業省「デジタルトランスフォーメーション（DX）検討会」座長、経済産業省「持続的な企業価値の向上と人的資本に関する研究会」座長、経済産業省「サステナブルな企業価値創造に向けた対話の実質化検討会」座長、経済産業省「環境イノベーション・ファイナンス研究会」座長等、2019年5月に設立された「TCFDコンソーシアム」会長、7&iホールディングス、東レなどの社外取締役を務めている。

14年1月よりアフラックインターナショナル株式会社 取締役社長(兼務)、2018年4月2日、アフラック生命保険株式会社の発足に伴い、同社代表取締役会長に就任(現職)。
現在、東京エレクトロン株式会社社外取締役、日本郵政株式会社社外取締役を務める。2006年から 2016年までは東京証券取引所、日本取引所グループ社外取締役を務めた。
他に、米日経済協議会理事(2011年11月~2013年11月会長・日米財界人会議米側議長)、公正取引委員会「独占禁止懇話会」会員、内閣府「対日直接投資推進会議」アドバイザー等を兼務する。

Charles Lake joined Aflac in 1999.
After serving as General Counsel and, later, Deputy President, Lake became President and Representative in Japan in 2003; Vice Chairman and Representative in Japan in 2005; and Chairman and Representative in Japan in 2008. In 2014, he also assumed the position of President, Aflac International. Upon the establishment of Aflac Life Insurance Japan Ltd. (Aflac Japan) on April 2, 2018, Lake became Aflac Japan’s Chairman and Representative Director. Lake currently serves as an independent outside director on the boards of Tokyo Electron Ltd. and Japan Post Holdings Co., Ltd. From 2006-2016, Lake served as a director on the board of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Japan Exchange Group, Inc. He also serves on the board of the U.S.-Japan Business Council (Board Chairman and U.S.-Japan Business Conference Chair (U.S.-side), 2011-2013), is an advisor on the Government of Japan’s Council for Promotion of Foreign Direct Investment in Japan, and is a member of the Japan Fair Trade Commission’s Antimonopoly Study Group.

静岡県出身。大学時代にスペイン国立サラマンカ大学へ留学。さくらんぼテレビ、テレビ大阪のアナウンサーを経て2008年より経済キャスターに。 現在、BSテレ東「日経プラス10」（月曜～金曜夜10時～）、「NIKKEI日曜サロン」（日曜朝9時30分〜）に出演中。企業経営者のインタビュー経験も豊富。趣味はランニング、ウクレレ。

Born in Shizuoka Prefecture. After working as an announcer at Sakuranbo TV and TV Osaka, she became an economic news anchor in 2008. She is currently appearing on BS TV TOKYO "Nikkei Plus 10" (Monday through Friday from 10:00 p.m.) and "NIKKEI Sunday Salon" (Sunday from 9:30 a.m.). She has extensive experience in interviewing corporate executives. Her hobbies are running and Ukulele.

西村康稔氏は自由民主党所属の衆議院議員で、現在経済再生担当大臣・TPP担当大臣・新型コロナウイルス感染症対策担当大臣・内閣府特命担当大臣（経済財政政策）・全世代型社会保障改革担当大臣を務める。
東京大学卒業、米国メリーランド大学公共政策大学院修了。
通商産業省を経て2003年から衆議院議員。
外務大臣政務官、内閣府副大臣、内閣官房副長官を経て、2019年9月から現職。

Minister for Economic Revitalization A member of the House of Representatives, Yasutoshi Nishimura currently serves as minister in charge of economic revitalization, minister in charge of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, minister in charge of Novel Coronavirus Disease Control, minister in charge of social security reform, and. He has held other positions in government such as parliamentary vice minister for foreign affairs and deputy chief cabinet secretary.
A graduate of the University of Tokyo, Nishimura also holds a master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Maryland.

Gillian Tett is Chair, Editorial Board, and Editor-at-large, US at the Financial Times.
She previously served as US Managing Editor, leading the Financial Times’ editorial operations in the region across all platforms. She writes weekly columns for the FT, covering a range of economic, financial, political and social issues throughout the globe. Ms. Tett served as Assistant Editor, US Managing Editor from 2010 to 2012, and prior to this Assistant Editor responsible for the FT’s markets coverage. Other roles at the FT have included Capital Markets Editor, Deputy Editor of the Lex column, Tokyo Bureau Chief, Tokyo Correspondent, London-based economics reporter and a reporter in Russia and Brussels. In 2014, she was named Columnist of the Year in the British Press Awards and also received the Royal Anthropological Institute Marsh Award. She is the author of The Silo Effect: Why Putting Everything In Its Place Isn’t Such A Bright Idea (Simon & Schuster, 2015), New York Times bestseller Fool’s Gold: How Unrestrained Greed Corrupted a Dream, Shattered Global Markets and Unleashed a Catastrophe (Little Brown, UK and Simon and Schuster, US, 2009), and Saving the Sun: A Wall Street Gamble to Rescue Japan from Its Trillion Dollar Meltdown (Harper Collins, 2003). ジョージ・W・ブッシュ政権で、国際問題担当の米財務次官を務める。政権を代表して為替政策やG7会合、国際通貨基金（IMF）・世界銀行案件などの国際金融問題に関わる。 中国、インド、ブラジルなど主要な新興国のカウンターパートと定期的に対話し、アジア、中東、欧州地域も幅広く訪問した。
財務次官に就任する前は、ポール・オニール長官とジョン・スノー長官の首席補佐官を務めた。
ジョージ・H・W・ブッシュ（父）政権ではホワイトハウスの政策立案局に所属した。
IIFに入る直前は、ワシントンを拠点とする経済アドバイザリーファームであるLindsey Groupのマネージングディレクターを務めた。1993年にはワシントンに拠点を置くアドバイザリーファームのG-7 Groupを共同で創設。のちに同社のマネージングディレクターとしてワシントンの活動を率いた。
現在、Center for Global Development、Center for Financial Inclusion Advisory Council、St. Paul’s Foundationなどの理事会や委員会のメンバーを務める。

Timothy Adams is currently President and CEO of the Institute of International Finance (IIF). As the Institute’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr.Adams is responsible for developing and executing the Institute’s programs under the guidance of the Board of Directors.

Prior to joining the IIF, Mr. Adams served as Managing Director of The Lindsey Group, an economic advisory firm based in Washington, DC. Previously, he served as Under Secretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Department of Treasury. As Under Secretary, Mr. Adams was the Administration’s point person on international financial issues, including exchange rate policy, G-7 meetings, and IMF and World Bank issues. He regularly interacted with counterparts in key emerging markets including China, India, and Brazil and traveled extensively throughout Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

Prior to assuming his post as Under Secretary, Mr. Adams had served as Chief of Staff to both Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill and Treasury Secretary John Snow. Mr. Adams also served in the White House under the first President Bush at the Office of Policy Development.
In 1993, Mr. Adams co-founded the G-7 Group, a Washington-based advisory firm. He later headed their Washington operation as Managing Director.
Mr. Adams serves on various boards and committees, including the Center for Global Development, the Center for Financial Inclusion Advisory Council, and St. Paul’s Foundation.
Mr. Adams holds a B.S. in Finance, a Masters in Public Administration, and an M.A. in International Relations from the University of Kentucky.

1981年マサチューセッツ工科大学Ph.D.（政治学）。 1984年東京大学教養学部助教授、1990年東京大学東洋文化研究所助教授、 1998年東京大学東洋文化研究所教授、2000年東京大学大学院情報学環教授、 2002年東京大学東洋文化研究所所長、2009年東京大学理事・副学長、 2011年同副学長、2012年−2015年国際協力機構（JICA）理事長、2015年東京大学東洋文化研究所教授、 2017年4月より現職。専門分野は国際政治理論、開発協力、アジアの国際政治、日本外交。 著書に『新しい「中世」』（日本経済新聞社、1996年、サントリー学芸賞受賞）、 『ワード・ポリティクス』（筑摩書房、2000年、読売・吉野作造賞受賞）、 『アジアのなかの日本』（NTT出版、2007年）など。2012年に紫綬褒章受章。

Akihiko Tanaka is President of the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS). Before assuming the current position, he had been Professor of International Politics at the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia, The University of Tokyo, for many years. He served as President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) from April, 2012 to September, 2015. Mr. Tanaka was also Executive Vice President of The University of Tokyo (2009-2011). He is Chairman of the Board, Japan for UNHCR and a Distinguished Fellow at the JICA Research Institute. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in International Relations at the University of Tokyo in 1977 and Ph.D. in Political Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1981. He has numerous books and articles on world politics and security issues in Japanese and English including The New Middle Ages: The World System in the 21st Century (Tokyo: The International House of Japan, 2002) and Japan in Asia: Post-Cold-War Diplomacy (Tokyo: Japan Publishing Industry Foundation for Culture, 2017). He received the Medal with Purple Ribbon in 2012 for his academic achievements.

2017年より現職。1988年に日本経済新聞社に入社して以来、編集委員、論説委員、英文コラムニストなどの立場で、グローバルな資本市場や企業を対象に取材・執筆活動を続けてきた。
2015年から2017年までは香港を拠点とする編集委員を務め、日本経済新聞やNikkei Asian Review でアジア全域の記事を執筆してきた。
ニューヨークには合計6年駐在している。2009年から2011年までは編集委員としてリーマン・ショック後の米国経済を追った。2002年から2006年の間もウォール街を中心に取材・執筆活動をしている。
1997年から2002年までは東京を拠点とし、株価の長期低迷や大手金融機関の相次ぐ経営破綻に代表される、日本の歴史的な経済危機を追跡した。
1994年から1997年は韓国のソウルに駐在し、政治・経済・社会・北朝鮮情勢など、朝鮮半島での全ての分野を担当している。 早大商学部卒、韓国・延世大語学院卒。

Mr. Kajiwara is a commentator for Nikkei. His focus is global capital markets and corporate news.
In 2007 Mr. Kajiwara became the Nikkei’s youngest editorial writer. From 2009 to 2011 he was on special assignment in New York to cover the post-crash American economy. From 2015 to 2017, he was a Hong Kong based columnist covering economic news across Asia. He returned to Tokyo in 2017.
From 2002 to 2006 he was the Nikkei’s chief New York correspondent, where he was responsible for covering capital markets and corporate news.
Previous to that, he served as a staff writer in the Capital Market and Corporate News Department in Tokyo from 1997 to 2002 and as a correspondent in the newspaper’s Seoul bureau from 1994 to 1997.
Mr. Kajiwara graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Japan’s Waseda University in 1988 and joined Nikkei in the same year. He also studied Korean at Yonsei University in South Korea from 1992 to 1993.
