Mitsuru Obe is Nikkei Asia’s Chief Business News Correspondent, having covered the manufacturing industry as well as the financial services sector.
Prior to joining Nikkei in 2017, he was a correspondent for the Wall Street Journal for six years, covering economic and political news out of Tokyo.
Before that, he spent 13 years as a staff writer for the Jiji Press news agency, including as New York correspondent between 2006-10, covering the 2008 presidential election and the Lehman crisis.
He is a recipient of the Best Journalist Work of the Year award from the IE Business School, Madrid, and an Excellence in Explanatory Reporting award from the Society of Publishers in Asia, Hong Kong.
