Graduated from the School of Political Science and Economics at Waseda University in 1994 and joined Nikkei Inc. as a staff writer. After working in the Capital Market and Corporate News Department, Setsuo worked in the Economic News Department, where he was in charge of the foreign exchange and bond markets, the Bank of Japan's monetary policy, and the government's macroeconomic policy. He also experienced economic forecasting at the Japan Center for Economic Research (JCER), a think tank of the Nikkei group. He was a visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., USA in 2015, and a chief correspondent at the Editorial Headquarters for the America, Nikkei Inc. from 2016 to 2019. After returning to Japan, He was a monetary policy and financial markets editor and has been in the current position since April 2023.
