After he joined Nikkei in 1987, Mikio covered economic news both in Osaka and in Tokyo. He served as Berlin Bureau Chief twice, Senior Staff Writer in London, and Economic News Editor in Tokyo. His main coverage is Japanese and global economy. Before he took the current position of Senior Editorial Writer and Senior Staff Writer in April 2022, he was Nikkei Commentator between 2017 and 2022, and Washington Bureau Chief between 2018 and 2022. He has authored several books including "Brexit　Shock".
