In 1993, graduated from Faculty of Medicine, Kyushu University. After graduation, engaged as a nephrologist. In 2000, obtained a Ph.D. of Medical Science, Faculty of Medicine, Kyushu University. In 2003, participated in the Hisayama Study as a research fellow in the Department of Medicine and Clinical Science, Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University. In 2006, studied abroad as a visiting research fellow in the Renal & Metabolic Division, The George Institute for global Health, Australia. Since 2011, served as an assistant professor in the Department of Nephrology, Hypertension, and Cardiovascular Medicine at Kyushu University Hospital, and later as a professor in the Center for Cohort Studies, Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University. In 2016, became a professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University.
