Takayuki Shiose

Dr. Shiose was born in Osaka, Japan, in 1973. He received a master's degree in precision engineering from Kyoto University in 1998, and a Ph.D with his research on human interface systems of proficient skill transfer using machine learning. He served concurrently as a Visiting Researcher with the ATR Network Informatics Laboratory, Keio Research Institute at SFC, etc. He was an assistant professor with the Graduate School of Informatics, Kyoto University, and was an associate professor at the Kyoto University Museum until June 2012 when he left the university. A month later, he started working as an assistant director (technology strategy) of Industrial Technology Policy Division of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. In July 2014, he resumed his position as an associate professor at the Kyoto University Museum.

He serves as a member of the production committee of NHK E-television's program titled "Kagakuno mikata," the general supervisor of "Curiosity Field" at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, a member of the Central Council for Education (Mathematical Inquiry), Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (2017), a member of the Innovation Subcommittee, Industrial Structure Council, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (2018-present), Chairman of the Expert Committee for the Japan Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka/Kansai, and other important posts.

He has received numerous awards, including the Commendation for Science and Technology from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (in the category of Promoting Understanding) in 2017, and the top prize in the book category of the HR Award 2021 from the Japan Human Resources Agency. Dr. Shiose is the author of "Designing Questions: Facilitating Creative Dialogue" (Gakugei Shuppansha, 2020) and "Changing the Future: Words of Great People" (Shinsei Shuppansha, 2021).
