Midori Takayama

Dr. Takayama specializes in gerontology and life-span developmental psychology, focusing on human development in later adulthood. Her research includes longitudinal studies on cognitive function, intelligence, personality, and social relationships, as well as adaptation processes in aging. She also conducts some empirical researches on intellectual abilities and psychological growth in older age. Recently, he has been exploring how the social and physical environments impact cognitive function and well-being among the elderly in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Starting in 2023, she has been joining the Cabinet Office Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP) on "Building an Inclusive Socio-Economic System for Older Adults" (program leader: Prof. Kohei Komamura of Keio Univ.).

She serves as the Director of the Japan Society of Applied Gerontology and the Japan Society of Well-Being. Dr. Takayama was a visiting scholar at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Michigan, from April 2010 to March 2012. She earned her Bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Letters at Keio University, a Master’s in Sociology from Keio University, and a PhD in Education from the University of Tokyo. She is also a licensed clinical psychologist.
