Steve joined Amgen in April 2017 as Vice President and General Manager of Amgen Astellas BioPharma. In June of the same year, he became President and Representative Director of Amgen Astellas BioPharma. He assumed his current post in April 2020.

Prior to joining the company, he was responsible for general management, sales and marketing, clinical development, business development and alliance management for 25 years at a Japanese and U.S. pharmaceutical company.

Fourth generation Japanese-American. He graduated with a degree in Asian Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara and joined the Bank of Tokyo, Japan. He subsequently joined the investment banking division of Credit Suisse First Boston Bank in Tokyo and New York. He was appointed to the Head of the diabetes business at Sanofi Japan, the Head of global clinical research of CNS drugs at Eli Lilly based in the U.S., and the Vice President of the diabetes business in the U.S., and then to the Head of Asia-Pacific at Biogen in 2015. At the same time, he served as President and Representative Director of the company's Japanese subsidiary.
