Graduated from Ochanomizu University, she joined Nikkei as a journalist in 1993 to cover various businesses in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya and to write stories on consumer trends. From January to July 1998, she was a member of a team to run a series of stories on the front page of The Nikkei, focusing on women. The column, “Quiet Revolution of Women,” was the first of its kind and since then, she began focusing on reporting on gender issues. From 2017 to 2019, she was the founding Editor-in-Chief for NIKKEI The STYLE, Nikkei’s lifestyle magazine. In April 2019, she became Senior Staff Writer, and since then she has been reporting extensively on work-life balance, career development including promotion of women in workplace, and diversity & inclusion.
