Atsushi Teraoka

Atsushi Teraoka is a reporter, exclusively in charge of cyber security issues in NIKKEI Inc., Japanese media conglomerate and the parent company of Financial Times. He covers topics such as corporate security, national security, influence operations, cybercrime, and anti-money laundering, as well as conducts investigations based on OSINT. He won a prize by the Waseda University for the contribution to a bunch of articles about problems in the government fund.

He began his career as a reporter in 2008 and jumped into cybersecurity field in 2014 to cover the incident at Mt. Gox, which was the world’s biggest crypto exchange at that time and lost a tremendous amount of Bitcoin due to cyberattack.

He completed an educational training program at the Kyushu University Cyber Security Center in 2023 and Chevening Cybersecurity Fellowship Program by the UK government in 2024. In 2025 he stayed in the US as a guest professor at the University of Maryland, College Park under Fulbright Scholarship Program by Department of State. He studied US’s initiatives in national cybersecurity by conducting interviews with 120+ experts.
