Paul Teng

Professor Paul Teng is a leading authority on food security, agricultural technology, digital transformation of agrifood systems, and smart and precision agriculture in Southeast Asia. He currently serves as Executive Director of The IRRI Fund Singapore, Visiting Senior Fellow at the ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute, and Senior Fellow at the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA/SEAMEO). He also advises several agritech companies, including Tropic Biosciences (UK), AgriG8 (Singapore), and Rize (Singapore), as well as two venture capital funds. In addition, he serves as Director of Terrasys Innovation Ventures and Chairman of Asia Biobusiness Pte. Ltd. Professor Teng has held senior leadership positions at the WorldFish Center, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Monsanto Company, and the Universities of Minnesota and Hawai'i.

Over a distinguished international career spanning more than four decades, he has led research, policy, and development initiatives in over 40 countries. He has authored or co-authored more than 15 books, over 200 scientific papers, and more than 120 professional publications. His most recent book, Food Security Issues in Asia (2024), examines emerging challenges and opportunities for regional food systems. Professor Teng earned his Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Honours) and Ph.D. from Lincoln College, University of Canterbury, New Zealand. His contributions to agricultural science and food security have been recognised through numerous international honours.
