Eriko Hibi

Director, FAO Liaison Office in Japan

Ms. Hibi has more than 30 years of experience working with the United Nations. She joined FAO headquarters in 2011 as a Senior Strategy and Planning Officer. After that, she served as FAO Representative in Syria and later as Subregional Coordinator for the Pacific Islands and FAO Representative for 14 Pacific countries, based in Samoa. Since September 2020, she has been the Director of the FAO Liaison Office in Yokohama, Japan.

Before joining FAO, Ms. Hibi worked with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for nearly 16 years. During that time, she held several positions in Bangkok, New York, and Tashkent, covering programmes in Asia, the Pacific, Africa, and Central Asia.

A Japanese national, Ms. Hibi holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), a Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Reading, and a Bachelor of Laws from Sophia University.
